Yoga Nidra
Deep Rest for the Body, Mind, and Soul
Often called “yogic sleep,” Yoga Nidra is a guided meditation practice done while resting comfortably in a supported position. Through gentle awareness of the body, breath, imagery, and intention, you are guided into a state of deep relaxation where the body can rest and the mind can become quiet and receptive.
Yoga Nidra bridges ancient wisdom with modern understanding. Research suggests that this practice supports relaxation, mindfulness, and nervous system regulation by guiding the body away from the constant activation of daily life and toward a more restorative state.
What to Expect
Each session is a guided journey through awareness and deep rest. You may experience:
Body scanning and breath awareness
Meditation and visualization
Intention setting
Gentle sound elements
Moments of stillness and reflection
No yoga experience is needed. There are no poses to master and nothing you need to “do” perfectly. Simply get comfortable, listen, and allow yourself to be guided. The entirety of the class is spent lying down in a “nidra nest” with a focus on getting comfortable and easing into complete stillness and awareness, with no movement.
Some people fall asleep. Some experience vivid imagery or insights. Some simply enjoy the rare opportunity to deeply rest. Every experience is unique.
The Science of Deep Rest
Research on Yoga Nidra and shows support for the body’s natural relaxation response to help regulate the nervous system. Studies have explored its potential benefits for reducing stress, supporting emotional balance, improving sleep quality, and increasing self-awareness.
Yoga Nidra has also been studied as a complementary practice for individuals experiencing anxiety, trauma-related symptoms, and conditions associated with chronic stress. By creating a state of deep rest and present-moment awareness, it may offer a supportive space for the body and mind to move toward greater calm and resilience.
While Yoga Nidra is not a replacement for medical or mental health treatment, it can be a powerful wellness practice that complements traditional care and supports overall well-being.
